February 2016 Roundup

Well we’ve had a very busy month continuing our topic.

February 2nd – The Paramedics came to visit us. The children had a great time learning about how paramedics look after us.We talked about different emergency situations and how to respond to them by calling 999. We tried on some bandages and clothes and were invited outside to have a look in the ambulance and hear the siren .We also looked at different emergency/first aid kits.

February 5th –  We’ve been to visit theFire Station visit. The children had a talk about fire safety indoors and outdoors and how to keep themselves safe.
We had a tour of whole fire station and looked at the fire engines and the protecting clothes fire-fighter wear.
We watched the firemen training and climbing the ladder 3 stories high.
We also sprayed water on a dummy using hosepipe.Overall this was one of our amazing outdoor trip

February 8th – Gong Xi Fa Cai! Happy Chinese New Year! The children are had a great day celebrating Chinese New Year with lots of activities planned around the theme. Jayden’s mum and dad came to tell us how Chinese people celebrate Chinese New year, they told us that in Chinese calender there are 12 animals and this is the year of monkey (fire monkey). Lee made us a delicious Chinese lunch- chicken stir fry with prawn crackers and we also had a go at opening fortune cookies.

February 16th – The doctors came to visit us.  They talked about their role and how they help sick people to get better soon and the tools they use such as stethoscope to check the heart beat and plasters/bandages for cuts. We also tried their stethoscope to check each others heart beat and practised putting plasters on each other.

This week children have been learning about how to keep themselves healthy and safe from virus and illnesses. They have been talking about the winter bug which is going around at the moment, and how we can keep away from it by drinking lots of water, washing hands thoroughly after outdoor play/ toileting and covering our mouth when we cough/sneeze. We would like to say a big thank you to Bella and Myiar’s mum for taking time out of their busy schedule to come and see us.
